All campus addresses have a standard format, and this standard should be adhered to in every situation where a campus address is used (stationery, correspondence, forms, Web sites, etc.). Every time the correct address format is used for incoming mail to the campus, USPS and Mail Services will be able to process it quickly and efficiently through their system with no delay.
The basic format is outlined below. Please note that the order of the address lines is very important:
Address Component | Example |
---|---|
Department Name | Department of Interesting Research |
Campus Name | University of California, Berkeley |
Address & Mail Code (1) | 100 Academic Hall # 1234 |
City/State/ZIP+4 (2) | Berkeley, CA 94720-1234 |
- A space must appear between the “#” and the Mail Code. It should read “# 1234”, not “#1234”
- The last four digits of the ZIP+4 must match the Mail Code in the line above
This is all the information required for basic mail delivery. However, if you wish to include additional address information for clarification or other purposes, please follow the formatting outlined below. It is important to note that the Campus Name, Address & Mail Code and City/State/ZIP+4 should always display at the bottom three address lines:
Address Component | Example |
---|---|
Name of Addressee | Prof. Jane Smith |
Sub-Unit Name | Robotics Division |
Department Name | Department of Interesting Research |
Campus Name | University of California, Berkeley |
Address & Mail Code | 100 Academic Hall # 1234 |
City/State/Zip+4 | Berkeley, CA 94720-1234 |
